According to Medical News Today, bananas are a rich source of potassium – an important mineral that helps stabilize blood pressure by balancing the amount of sodium in the body.
A study of more than 1,000 people over 50 years old showed that the group that ate 1-2 bananas a day for more than half a year had an average reduction in systolic blood pressure of 3-5 mmHg.
Although the reduction is not large, combined with a healthy lifestyle, the risk of cardiovascular disease is significantly reduced. Bananas also contain magnesium, which helps dilate blood vessels and maintain a stable heart rate.
